About the Mangaka
I had a fun time trying to find out about Unita Yumi, machine translation of pages was bloody funny. He/she does have a website though, it’s all in japanese.
About the Manga
Ahhh what can I say, this series is just so damned cute it’s unbelievable. I loved it to bits and seriously wish Yen Press were releasing this in the same style as With the Light, I want the second volume now!!
Initially I wasn’t sure about this title, I did a flick through of the volume and something about the art was off to me.
However, one thing I really loved was the cover design. Rin, our main girl, looks just so damned cute. While I have to admit when I first look at the cover it feels like there’s a load of wasted space, but looking a second time it actually looks right.
The colour panel is “nice” but not great, but Rin does look cute hehe. In all honesty she’s one of the cutest characters I’ve seen in a while.
I have to admit that it takes a bit to get really into the art, but after a while it really grows on you. I loved the designs of the characters. Rin is a nicely designs character, who pulls the cutest pouts and scowls.
Daikichi’s character design took more getting used to for me, something about him was initially wrong I felt. However as the volume went buy I started caring less and less about it, though it was always there.
I love the use of comic and almost chibi style characters are just awesomely well done
Where this manga really excels though is the story, it’s so simple and yet so amazing. In a lot of ways this reminds me of Aishiteruze Baby, which has a similar story hook.
Yumi has created an amazing bond between Rin and Daikichi, and I loved the exchanges between them. The way the volume ends is rather funny as well, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out in volume two!!
This volume took me by surprise due to it’s size. It’s not the usual size for a Yen Press manga, rather it’s a manhwa side, and I have to admit it does look awesome that size!!
An awesome translation that flows well and has no issues. The honorific’s in this volume are scarce, but they are there. However since the vast majority of the talking is between family this isn’t surprising. The best thing about this volume is that there is no guttering at all anywhere. As always with a Yen title we get excellent use of fonts and editing, and loads of translation notes.
All told this is a series I have no issue with putting on my Essential Read list from the outset. It has everything I love about a series, and only a few minor niggles, but overall I loved it to bits!!
