Animation wise its not a bad show, not the greatest but not to bad either. The music is pretty average and so is the script. However, I hate this show with a vengeance and I’ve only just finished watching it and I’m so glad i didn’t buy the DVD’s just borrowed them from a friend.
The sad thing about this is that the plot is freaking awesome, and has such awesome potential, but they never draw it out. I wonder if they even tried to draw it out.
The basic story is Yorn’s father is killed right in front of him, and he’s almost killed when a strange girl intervenes and helps him. When he wakes up the next day its just him alone until a friend of his fathers arrives, and destroys his world even more. He find’s out he’s a God Hunter, is joined by Elisiss the strange girl from before, and ends up being chased by two opposed sides, all wanting the power he possesses.
The story is great, but its let down by the overly high cheese and comedy. The comedy is so much it stops being a comedy and becomes and annoyance. I don’t mind cheese or comedy, but if it ruins the plot and story then its over the top.
Then we have the character development, Elisiss is handled so badly it’s painful. From the outset it’s obvious she’s different, they rushed her development and stumbled over so many things it’s impossible to like her, by the end I was glad she went ‘poof’.
Then we have ‘old man’ I mean for crying out loud, he’s a lead character and for over half the series he’s referred to as ‘old man’. Then we get one episode where we learn his name, and it’s back to ‘old man’ again.
Next the two floating cities, why were they floating? Why were they fighting? Crucial questions that were never answered. They started to, then probably realised they’d run out of episodes so dropped it mid flow and changed to other things.
Then there’s spike, another God Hunter, he could of been a great opposing character for Yorn, but his dialogue sucked, the screen time was minimal, and every time he appeared he got trounced. Then when Yorn finally figures out what a God Hunter is supposed to do and starts doing it, Spike jumps in and screws they whole thing up and walks off whistling merrily as though nothing was wrong.
If this had been made with a more serious tone, and some proper explanations given, i think this could of been a great series. Overall though I was disappointed with this series and will be adding it to my ‘Never watch again, even if paid’ list
