About the Mangaka
No information on Mikage Naoyuki, this seems to be her first work (or his). If you have any info please drop me a line.
About the Manga
What can I say, another really good volume that I loved to read, sucks that this is the last of the currently available volumes.
I once again love the cover design of this volume, the chibi’s are awesome, as the art is done really well.
The insert art is awesome, and shows Nanako off as a maid. What more can we want
we have maids and miko’s, every guys dream hehe.
As with the previous volume, the character pages is full colour, and while it looks sweet, I found it was a bit to cluttered, I would have preferred smaller less cramped art that could have really shown off Mikage’s stunning art.
Once again we’re given six pages of stunning full colour on high gloss paper. Looks awesome and Mikage’s art goes to an all new level because of it. I love how the characters look in the panels
The art of this series is pretty awesome throughout, I really cant find anything to criticise. The way Mikage integrates her chibi’s is perfectly done, though admittedly most 4-koma I’ve read seem to be done by manga-ka who seem to know how to balance chibi and normal really well.
The stories in this volume are also really well written and at times bloody funny. The more I read them the more I find myself laughing and unable to put the volume down.
What I feel really makes this series so good though is the relationships with the characters, they mix really well and for the most part have well established personalities.
I was a bit sad to see that Nanako’s brother wasn’t in this volume, I found him to be both annoying and funny in the first, and was hoping he’s make a reappearance this volume.
One character who makes her first appearance this volume is a bit lacking, I found her a bit robotic, and didn’t really like her. But since she only comes in in the latter half of the volume she wasn’t given the chance to really get established. Hopefully she’ll be fleshed out in the next volume.
Yen Press did a pretty decent job all told this release. The glossy pages really give the colour panels a strong breath of life and really help to make them come alive. The translation is good, with a nice and smooth flow to it. However I noticed a lot of artefacts left in the panels in the later half of the volume, also the art looks a bit smudged that could be intentional on Mikage’s part, or due to ink bleeding.
Overall though another excellent volume, though the fact it’s incomplete goes against it. Also this series is so much like other 4-koma I’ve read recently, that nothing really sets it apart or makes it stand out. So while I really do enjoy the series, it wont make it onto my essential read list.
