About the Mangaka

Kara is the name of a manwha-ga-duo: Yoon-Gyeong Kim & Eun-Sook Jeong. And to quote them, their name comes from the Hebrew word for ‘to invite’.

Kim and Jeong first met each other when they both were in their fourth year of university, working together as assistants for the manhwa-ga Eun-Young Hong.
They made their debut in 2000, when their short story “Terra” (which you can find in DD Volume 1) won a prize at the “1st CAKE Manhwa Contest”. On June 15th that year, they began to publish “Mawang Ilgi” in the Manhwa Magazine CAKE.

About the Manga

ANGELDIARY_10

What can I say, I loved this volume. Forget everything that’s happened and boil it down to a sibling fist fight, total awesomeness.

I love the colour panels in this volume, the first being the cover without the text, and looks awesome. The second is okay, but suffers from being split, would be a lot better if it was a pull out. The third is just cuteness to the max :D

The start of the volume is really touching, and I think KARA did an excellent job on the scenes. They really brought the love, sadness and anger out amazingly well. The final death scene was just stunning and one I think that would look really awesome in full colour.

This volume gets extra points for finally fulfilling my wish, in making Dong-Young look and feel a girl. This volume sees her change for a while and lose the tom boy attitude, as well as the boyish look, and become a rather cute looking girl in formal princess gear.

The other aspect of the art I loved was the cartoony/chibi style characters who are used to excellent impact in this volume.

For me though the entire volume is saved by the fact it’s reduced to a family quarrel. It works really well and was something that was long overdue. The various fight scenes are well drawn and flow really well, however it’s not until the later part of the volume that things get really good.

Initially as I read this volume I worried over how much tension was being built up, but this was released all at once in the later half of the volume. Dong-Young pretty much takes the back seat for a while and the focus shifts to the demon family, and their argument and reunion was another touching scene. Though I curse them for that cliff-hanger of an ending >.<

The best part about this volume is we get to see different aspects of the various characters. It made a nice change, and results in the characters feeling more alive and fleshed out.

As always Yen Press did an awesome job with this volume. A nice and smooth translation which flows well. No major issues with the editing, and no guttering issues YAY!!

This volume definitely increases my like of the series, but it’s not quite good enough for my Essential Read list. That said, it is one worth reading if you have some spare cash and want to try out something new.
