This was another impulse buy, bought at the same time as Angelic Runes. Sadly this is one I regret buying because it fails so badly.

Yeah I don’t do comics very often, but I liked the plot behind it, and I liked the cover when I saw it. Sadly that’s all there was to like about it.

The problem is the length of the volume. 112 pages, so in my mind not even a full volume. So, given it’s length the story progresses at a break neck pace, and pretty much ploughs into a wall at 100mph.

The cover is interesting, and I thought well drawn. Also something about Praetorian Guards being cursed with immortality for killing Jesus, and living in today’s world, was a pretty interesting plot.

However, art wise, the cover is where the good art ends. Once we get inside the actual volume the art steadily declines and becomes horrendous. They start off fairly smooth and rounded, but by the half way mark the faces of the characters resemble talking bricks more than anything else.

the other problem was with the colouring, again it starts off not so bad, but swiftly descends into crap. I was disappointed at how bad the characters ended up looking.

The designs of the characters are pretty inconsistent as well. While it’s true that the main lead, Kasandra, initially has a good design to her, it’ doesn’t last. None of the other characters have a solid and consistent design to them. In fact it was so bad that at times I lost track of who was who, especially in fight scenes where designs were different from one panel to the next.

There’s one part where a kid is supposed to be running for his life in fear, but to me it looks like he’s running away laughing, urgh.

The story was exceptional, and I’ll compliment Villa (Ricardo A. Villa) on creating a potentially amazing story. However due to the volume’s short nature, the story is handled badly and never allowed to expand.

There was so much wasted, no character development on any level, and Kasandra was to accepting of the things going on around her. The revelations would have been interesting, but again due to the pacing it was obvious who was behind things  almost straight away.

When this happens the volume loses it’s readability. In truth after reading this once I put it away and I doubt I’ll ever read it again, or buy any future volumes.

Needless to say this goes on my Junk Pile, like all comics it’s bloody expensive. It costs more than most manga, for less material, so it’s got a hard sell with me all ready. But tied with everything else, I can’t really do anything buy trash it.

Where to Buy.
