About the Manga

Another awesome volume, though it started off rough I was loving it by the end. A slight disclaimer though, this volume introduces a soft gay undertone, which some may find offensive. Especially since it’s hinted that the relationship will be built on. Though personally I found this to be the best part of the volume.

The art still hasn’t fully won me over, but I have to admit I do like the designs for most of the characters. My only real complain is that with the exception of Nan-Woo they’re all stick figures. This gives rise to some very freaky arms in a few panels, and more than a few creepy shrivelled hands!!

I really like Nan-Woo now, her design used to feel wrong, but I think it was because her personality felt stale. However when I read this volume she was awesome, full of life and energy.

The problem however is that Nan-Woo fails as a main lead. The reason being she’s always being eclipsed by the characters around her. Especially by Jay and Jae-Young her mom and brother.

Both of these are more alive and have a stronger presence than Nan-Woo has, and I have to admit that by the end of the volume I felt that it was Jay who was the lead.

Once again the story in this volume is where it excels. The relationships in this series are amazing, and even though they’re a bit on the cheesy side, they’re amazing well done.

Nan-Woo and Seung-Ha’s relationship is finally starting to have a good feel to it. Sure Seung-Ha is still an annoying git that I’d love to beat up. However due to the mellowing of his attitude we’re finally getting to see some of his true character. For me this is not before time, as I was getting really tired if his old attitude.

Nan-Woo’s personality is also growing, getting a bit more fleshed out and growing on me. However as I said she’s still weak compared with her families personalities and attitudes.

Jay is fast growing to be my favourite character, and his relationship with Hyun-Ho is amazing. Watching it come to the climax this volume was amazing, and I can’t wait to see how it goes from here.

Jae-Young is a freak. She’s Nan-Woo’s mum, but when we see her in this volume she looks like a guy with a girly face. She’s got a wash board chest with no boobs at all. I want to say she looks sexy, but in truth she looks anorexic more than anything else. That said though I love her personality and the stuff she comes out with. She’s pure fun.

This volume settles some of the questions we have Seung-Ha. This works wonders to soften his bad boy image, and as the volume progressed I really started to pity him, as well as grew to like him.

As a main character he’s got a stronger presence that Nan-Woo, which I have to admit does mean he smoothers her at times. I have to admit that I am also finding his attitude towards Nan-Woo easier to swallow. Mainly I think because rather than simply picking on her all the time he’s now having softer moments, which confuse Nan-Woo and lead to some good comedy moments.

With the exception of the first panel, I’m none to keen on the colour pages. They’re aren’t really badly drawn, I just don’t really like the style to much.

Yen Press have released another good volume, with a smooth consistent translation. I found a few elements that I thought were either spelling or grammar mistakes, but after rereading them again I realised it’s just the characters way of talking. Leaving in elements like that are a bonus for me, since it means it’s as close to the original as possible,

All told another enjoyable volume that’s raised my feelings toward the series. Though still not to the point of it being on my Essential Read List. at least it’s not on my Junk Pile list :D
