This is my third catch up post on the Yen Plus Anthology.

anthology6a anthology6b

I’m not to keen on the One Fine Day manhwa cover, it looks nice true, but something is lacking from it. The Sumomomo cover is a bit better, but only cause it’s got my fave megami on it :D

The Manhwa Side

Starting off with the manhwa side again. This month favourite was chosen by Kurt, and he picked a killer volume, Maximum ride, which I totally agree with.

One Fine Day – Sirial

I didn’t think much of this chapter, partly because after the last one I had high expectations for this one, which kinda fell flat. Also I think the cute aspect is starting to wear a bit thin with me. Unless we start to get some real story soon i’ll be seriously disappointed.

Maximum Ride – James Patterson & NaRae Lee

*sobs* this chapter was just so damned sad. I really felt sorry for Max. NaRae is getting better with her art in certain smaller areas that had been lacking (but not essential). The story seems to take a small hold for most of the chapter and deals with Max getting a taste of what a real family life is like. Hope she gets to see some more of it at some point. Sadly there was no Angel this chapter :( which was a let down lol.

Pig Bride – Kookhwa Huh & Sujin Kim

Damn what an awesome chapter!! Has everything I love about shojo in it. We got to see some awesome scenes between both Mu-Yeon and Doe-Doe, as well as some hints at the history between them. The ending of the chapter was a killer cliff-hanger as well!!

Sarasah – Ryang Ruy

My interest in this series is really reaching an all time low. I almost gave up with this chapter half way through I found it so boring. We’re about a volume into the series now, and there’s still negligible movement on the story. It’s a shame, since Ryang’s art can be pretty amazing at times.

Goong Preview

Next up is a preview of the Goong manhwa that’s been released already. For more thought’s on it see my earlier reviews.

One Fine Day – Sirial

A second dose of One Fine Day this volume, and I have to admit I’m all the more disappointed. Once again no real substance to it, just another day in the life thing. It’s not bad really, but it’s definitely one of those series you need to be in the right mood to read.

Nightschool – Svetlana Chmakova

This was a rather short chapter I thought, though there were some interesting developments. Hard to say anything else without giving the chapter away lol.

That said: I WANT A PLUSHIE ASTRAL!!!!

Jack Frost – JinHo Ko

The fight is still on going, and looks like it’ll continue for at least another chapter, probably two. However it seems we’re getting into some story now, or that’s how I read the last few pages. I do hope we get some sort of explanation soon though

Following this last chapter we get the professional art submissions and finally we have a fan art section. Hope we get a letters section as well eventually. Finally we have the Afterword, and 4Koma by Abby Blackman.

The Manga Side

Sumomomo, Momomo – Shinobu Ohtaka

The saving grace of this chapter is that Sanae is introduced, the megami class pres that strips down into bondage gear to become a hero of justice roflmao. We don’t get that this chapter though :D

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed to see Koushi suddenly growing a spine. I was expecting it to happen at some point, but it’s a bit to fast for my liking.

Bamboo Blade – Masahiro Totsuka & Aguri Igarashi

hmmm another double dose of Bamboo, and once again I find myself wondering when this series is going to get fun. TBH these two chapters had a huge time flow inconsistency in them that left me wondering WTF was going on for a while. Truthfully if this was in tankobon format I doubt I’d buy it.

Soul Eater – Atsushi Ohkubo

While this was a fun chapter, I was scratching my head wondering how the situation came about. It was a rather huge jump from the previous one to this one. Still no sign of a story though, which I think is a bit on the bad side. Atsushi should bring the story in soon or lose readers.

Nabari no Ou – Yuhki Kamatani

I never got into the anime of this, I always considered it a very low priority for reading. However I have to admit that I’m getting into it more and more. It’s slowly winning me over as a fan. This chapter was really interesting, and really made me chuckle. Looking forward to the next one now.

Higurashi – When they Cry: Abducted Demons Arc – Karin Suzuragi & Ryukishi07

AAAARRRGGGGHHHH i’ll have nightmares for weeks after this chapter hehe. The thing I love about Higurashi is that it really creeps me out on so many levels. What’s more is that I usually hate this style of manga, but I can’t help but love this one to bits. If you want to know how this ends though you gotta buy the collected volume, since this series has finished it’s run, incomplete in Yen Plus.

Final Thoughts

While some of the series are growing stale for me, it’s still an excellent anthology worth reading. Glad to see they’re finally adding fan art, and I hope they’ll later add fan letters as well.

Some of them leave me scratching my head wondering just what the hell is going on, Bamboo Blade is a prime example of that.
