Why the hell is this series so damned confusing!!

I can’t get to grips with this series, just as I think I finally have a hang of it, something happens to throw me off. This usually wouldn’t be an issue, in fact it would have been the series major selling point. However even the underlying story, which is essential, is a confusing mess.

Art wise, like the previous volume, the cover art is amazing, as is the pull out poster. However everything else is abysmal. Character designs change to frequently, and at times it’s impossible to know who’s talking. more confusion comes around when you realise who is talking, and it just doesn’t suit them.

However that alone wouldn’t be enough for me to condemn the series. The killing factor for me is the story. The story makes the art look like perfect sense. Through all the volumes I’ve read I’ve never been able to fully understand what’s going on. This is very frustrating, since if you can’t understand what’s happening, will you carry on buying it?

Lee does try to move the story along in this volume, but her apparent in ability to write a coherent story means it’s a mess. Things happen that really don’t make much sense, and events take place that leave you going ‘WTF’ and scratching you head.

For me, I don’t understand how some one can produce an excellent cover and pull out, but make such a crappy art design through out the series. It seems like such a waste to me.

Yen Press do their usual good job, but as with a lot of their Korean series this one has some bad guttering. Though nothing to the point of doing major damage to the spine. Or that could just be because I wasn’t motivated to actually open it up that far to get to the few words I was missing.

My only complaint is with the lettering, in areas where you have lettering with no speech bubble, the border around the text is to small, making it hard to read at times.

All in all, this volume was bad, and since this is the last release of this from Yen it’s unlikely we’ll get the ending anytime soon. Yup, you read that right. Since this was previously a IceK title, it was only licensed up to volume six. While there are subsequent volumes, they aren’t licensed. So until Yen re-license them (something they are doing), we’ll have to wait with not so baited breath.
