About the Manga
I’m finding this volume more and more confusing as I go, but still a bit fun
The problem I’m having is that the story is really intertwined and complex, and since I’m still missing the first three volumes I’m still trying to figure out who’s who and what’s what.
With Lee’s story this is a must, since picking it up part way through the series leads to a hell of a lot of confusion.
I have to admit however that I still enjoyed this volume.
Lee’s story is interesting, and the way the personalities clash in the characters is really amusing. I especially like how it’s impossible to tell who is on whose side. There seems to be more development this volume, with the introduction of a new group into the mix. We also get to see that there is really no clear good or bad guys, just differing goals. This is very interesting and a different aspect to what we usually see in manga. This is one of the main reasons I’m still reading the series.
Art wise, I love the cover art, which is just awesome, however that’s all that’s good. As I said in my previous review Lee’s art just goes from bad to worse, to disgusting. I don’t understand why he can’t keep up the great art style he does do occasionally. I keep getting the impression that he only really tries to do quality stuff part of the time. Which is a shame, since it feels like it could be a good series.
Yen Press did a good job on this one, including the color double page pull out, a good translation and editing; and only minimal guttering issues. Though admittedly those are generic of the manhwa class.
Also, in my previous review I mentioned about not liking the ‘childish’ style of talking several of the characters use. It becomes more clear in this volume that this is a deliberate thing, not on the part of Yen Press, but rather of Lee, in a bid to signify they’re using a different language I guess. In the previous volume it didn’t work, it felt to forced and out of place. This time however it actually works a lot better, and fits.
Sadly I still haven’t been able to get the first few volumes. Yen Press were due to reprint them in November, but nothing has appeared as of yet. I hope they won’t be to much longer.
