Errrrr, no. The anime My-HiME is the original work, not the manga. Of course, in that case I find the manga to be something of a painful bastardisation on the anime version.

Still, the fact stands, the anime HiME shows are the originals and the series canon. Everything else is span-off from there.

I hope this isn’t as bad as you described as this confirms my worst fears. Does high schoolers sell that much compared to adults? While the manga wasn’t really outstanding by any means, part of the stuff came from them being adults with Keita and his computer job and how he pretty much abused his relationship with Akane to get videogames and money. Ugh.

@DiGi I’ll give you that point , anime of Hime still sucks balls IMO where as the manga kicks ass!!

While the fight scenes in the anime are pretty good, the series can’t survive on that alone. Since they’ve castrated and changed the story, i can’t see it working out. Problem with this is a lot of people who would buy the anime are going to be fans of the manga, and i for one wont be buying it. Just like i refused to buy Tokko after seeing the hatchet job that got.

I’m a bit biased towards Sunrise series. The Code Geass series was as epic as you could get in anime. Then again, the only reason I watched Code Geass was because CLAMP did the character designs.

I tend to dislike angsty series, save for Avatar The Last Airbender. xD

I thought code gease was crap TBH. Sure it had good premis and story, it started off okay, but failed in the long run. I got bored of it half way through the first season. Definitely not what i would call an epic series

Agreed, agreed, agreed. I watched this first episode today and was disappointed the moment I saw Keita was a highschool student and they screwed with his character design. I loved that the lead characters were older than your stereotypical highschool students, and the revelation of keyplot points this early in the animated version completely takes away the suspense of waiting! Not happy Good thing I rarely watch anime and always have the manga to enjoy.

And Fuck, all I want is HiME sequel…………yes I admit the manga was awesome and I kinda wished they could have made into a sequel, but back to KuroKami, I’m not a little a pissed about how there going to the original instead to the manga but they do show parts of it and doesn’t incredibly show alot of finesse for the anime, but I still watch on how it’s goes and yes, nothing gets my blood boiled of seeing Keita screaming like a bitch, but anyway I don’t drawn out knowing that’s it’s Sunrise cliche for every emo character to go out screaming like a bitch!

Sunrise you still got time to make MY-HiME sequel, stop re-using and start using your minds and read some fanfiction!

I’ll reserve full judgment until I’ve seen a few more eps… IMHO I think more series are going “based on” to avoid cannibalising sales of light novels/manga, but not all efforts are bad (like FMA, I’m enjoying the manga storyline still) so have to give it a chance.

At least the prota is not a shota (hurr hurr). Also he seems pretty decent. So no, I disagree with your statements.

Hmmm. I just saw the first episode of Kurokami and was immediately struck with the desire to drop it. After reading this though, I might give the manga a shot instead since I do think the premise is reasonably interesting. :\

I just saw it today and RAGE. You are absolutely right. I have no clue why they did such drastic changes to the story, like Maya and the mother clone. Keita better lose his arm or I will be beyond pissed(although unfortunately I will buy the DVDs for the art direction and fighting scenes but I won’t be happy about it). It just pisses me off so much as everything else looks amazing its just they decided to take a deuce on the story.

Well, I never read the manga. And I have to say, I loved the first episode. This is the only winter series I’ve seen so far that I thought wasn’t just mindless panty shot fluff.

Maybe when the series is over I’ll go ahead and read the manga. If it really is that much better, than I’ll have the best of both worlds. Enjoyment of the anime unruined from expectations from the manga, and than even more enjoyment from a better portrayal of the story.
