I know I don’t usually do anime anymore, but this is one I have to talk about.
Black God is one of the best manga I’ve read in ages, I’m a huge fan of the series and was counting the days till the anime aired.
Unfortunately I overlooked an important piece of information, it’s being done by Sunrise. which means it’s going to be a totally different series. Ad, after just watching episode one, my fears have become reality.
Black God is a seinen series, with adult *cough* leads, plenty of fan-service, and kick ass action. Sadly, the anime has been reduced to a shonen angst series with an overly emo lead.
Keita, who in the manga is a computer programmer is now a high schooler. The emo level in the manga works because it fits his personality. In a high schooler though it just fails on so many levels. All it does is make me want to beat him up.
Akane, one of my favourite characters in the manga, has been reduced in status in the anime. After Keita’s moms death she took over looking after him, basically raised him, it’s fairly obvious from the manga that she loves Keita. However since Sunrise resurrected his dad, as well as putting him in a place where the neighbours look after him (he goes to a neighbours for meals), her roll has been removed.
This means a lot of the humour is going to be gone, since a lot of it stems from their interactions.
To much of the story is revealed in this episode, a school friend sees her doppeliner and Keita tries to warn her, his mothers death is revealed in full, and the truth about the doppeliner’s.
While it’s true that the series is potentially going to have great action scenes, at least based on episode one. However for me action alone isn’t enough, especially since once the series gets going there are times when there is no action.
One of the key facets of this series is the story, and without the story it’s just going to blow.
Perhaps if I had never read the manga I may have enjoyed this, but as it stands I want my twenty minutes back please!!!
Then again, I should of realised, Sunrise mad Mai-Hime, another series bastardised into a new sucky series, rather than following the manga.

I hope taht GONZO and sunrise go bankrupt soon and stop wasting great plots
