About the Mangaka

About the Manga

Black God - v03

I’d been waiting eagerly for this volume of Black God, and damn was it worth the wait!!

Sung-WooPark’s art is getting better and better, and damn Kuro-chan is so damned cute in this volume!!

The cover art is just plain old stunning, but the colour insert is a bit saucy and just to damned cute!!

Dall-Young Lim carries on writing an amazing story, and this volume is no different to the the previous two.

I got so into this volume I forgot I was supposed to be reviewing it, and had to read it twice more >.<

We’re dropped right into the emotional stuff right from the start, with Keita having to deal with witnessing the death of a young girl. However when he see’s the two people he thinks are responsible, his anger overwhelms him, and he foolishly attacks, and gets his butt kicked.

Luckily the two aren’t really enemies, but two members of The Noble One, an alliance of four noble European houses. However they don’t being good news, but rather open old wounds when they reveal a photograph of Keita’s mother, who seems to be still alive, despite having been killed right in front of him.

This volume is filled with tones of action as well, as the mysterious group from volume two returns to try and kidnap Akane again. This time it’s the mysterious duo from The Noble One who saves the day, and they decide that both Keita and Akane need to be investigated before they act. Especially since Keita has a strange destiny awaiting him.

Excel looks like she’ll be an interesting character, and she seems to have an interest in Keita. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out since we already have Akane and Kuro after him. Though I think Kuro is the one that’ll get him in the end. Akane is a bit annoying, though I think she’ll go through some changes, otherwise she’ll just get more and more annoying as time goes on.

The special chapter at the end is bloody funny, and had me in laughing so hard I’m sure I cracked a rib or two.

Christine Shilling returns as the translator, and once again does a superb job. Keiran O’Leary returns for his second volume for lettering, and he does a decent job. Thankfully this volume doesn’t suffer from the gutter problem, in fact I hardly noticed any run in, which is great.

As with all of Yen’s releases we have a high quality release on our hands, thick glossy cover and a decent grade of paper. They seem to have settled on a lower grade than was used in With the Light, but it’s still white paper, and still higher quality than anything else out there at the moment.

The only thing wrong with this release is that I now have to wait four months for the next release!!! NOOOOOOO. Quarterly releases are killing me, and they also spoil the flow of the story. Personally I’d like to see that cut to two months. Sure it’s still ruining the flow and consistency, but I’d be getting my Kuro-chan fix two months sooner hehe

Needless to say this series remains in my Essential Read list!!
